Ice Spear
skill
Ice Spear is a sophisticated magic skill on par with Fireball and Thunder, and although it is a bit difficult to use, it possesses a tremendous amount of power. This guide will delve deeply into the skill, from acquiring the skill all the way up to the actual usage.

1. Acquire the Ice Spear skill book

In order to learn the Ice Spear skill, you’ll need to have a title [the Noob Elemental Master] and be equipped with an [Ice Wand].

Once you are ready, you should talk to Stweart at Dunbarton Magic School and talk to him using the keyword [Skills].

* If you are in process of acquiring Arrow Revolver, Fireball, or Thunder, then you will not be able to acquire the quest for Ice Spear.

Once you talk to Stewart about the skill Ice Spear, he will tell you that there once was a wizard who explored Iria, and wrote a diary on his experience. He will then ask you to find 5 of those pages that are missing from the diary.

Once you look into the inventory, you will notice that you have acquired a quest scroll and the [Explorers Journal] collection book.

1) Gathering up the Pages for the Journal

The journal requires 5 pages, and each page can be found somewhere in Iria.

Page 1 : Journal
- Monster: Stone Mimic
... Right around time when Palala shot across the center of the southern skies, I was walking out of my house with a ragged robe on my left shoulder.

All I had left behind was a note to my long-time wizard friend telling him that I was embarking on a journey to gather up some rare herbs.

I did make sure to pack up a dagger and a set of armor that were both heavily blessed with the Holy Water of Lymilark.

I also made sure to pack up some food and various potions to prepare myself for the long journey that laid ahead...

... It didn't take long for me to reach the coast.

Palala had already disappeared by then, and a long line of tall, strange trees were covering up the sky anyway.

Every breath I took was followed by a quick rush of dizziness due to heavy level of oxygen around the area.

There was a faint beam of light that was being spread out around east of the ocean. Carefully observing the light, I figured that might actually be from Port Ceann, which was far from where I stood.

A sudden rush of loneliness creeped into my conscience...

(The power of magic is in effect, blurring out the rest of the book.)

Page 3: Journal
- Monster: The Boss Monster that glows all over the body (Karu Forest Ruins Dungeon)
... Day two of my life in a foreign land.

The warmth of Palala was still evident even as I ventured hundreds of miles away from home.

Oh, the marvelous work of Lymilark...

The first item that reacted to Mana was my old Ice Wand. It was a faint tingling much like a heartbeat of a baby that was just born.

That strange tingling vibration was coming from the wand, and I was able to detect it with the back of my hand.

(The power of magic is in effect, blurring out the rest of the book.)

Page 4 : Journal
- Monster: The treasure chest found with L-Rod
... As I stood in front of a giant hill on the desert that just never seem to end, I noticed that the concept of time was starting to be distorted for me.

Maybe it's my way of finally accepting the fact that I am at a strange new land, and must succumb to their own set of rules and time.

But before doing that, I wanted to further explore the origin, the core of Mana. Maybe I was just being overly ambitious.

It's been a couple of months since I first came here, and still I fear spending a night in this strange land. It may be a fear of divinity and the holy spirit.

Am I really living... or am I slowly dying...?

(The power of magic is in effect, blurring out the rest of the book.)

Page 5: Journal
- Monster: Masked Goblin
... I am now completely lost. I have no idea where I am at right now. Around noon, as I desperately searched for clues, I found a footprint in the middle of the desert, and tears of joy started running through my cheeks.

Those tears of joy turned into tears of utter disappointment in a hurry. It was my own footprint that I created yesterday.

I had been literally going around in circles the past two plus days.

A faint memory of my happier days lodged in the back of my mind is all that is keeping me from losing it all.

...Oh dear lord Lymilark. Please save me...

(The power of magic is in effect, blurring out the rest of the book.)

* These pages can be acquired under a set probability rate.

After completing the Explorers Journal, deliver it to Stewart to receive the complete [Ice Spear Skill Book].

2) Gather up the Pages for the Ice Spear Skill Book

The Ice Spear skill book is just like the journal in that it’s a collection book, and it also requires 5 pages. Each page can be found somewhere in Uladh.

* If you have forfeited the quest, then you will have to start all over again, starting with the Explorers Journal, so if please think carefully before forfeiting the quest.

- Monster: Giant Ice Sprite (Elemental Dungeon)

After talking to Nele of Emain Macha, you will receive a [Elemental Dungeon Pass]. Use this pass at the Coill Dungeon to enter the Elemental Dungeon.

Elemental Dungeon is similar to a regular Coill Dungeon, except that the Boss Room features 3 Giant Ice Sprites. If you defeat these three monsters, you will acquire Page 1 of the book at a set probability rate.

If you were unable to do so, then receive another pass by talking to Nele using the keyword [Elemental Dungeon Pass] and re-receive the pass.

1. Introduction

The motive behind writing this book will especially intrigue you, as there is an intimate connection between the content and the purpose of this book. Hence, I, the author, would like to explain how this book came to be written.

A year ago on an Imbolic morning, an explorer that had crossed the Muyu Desert and staying at Qilla Base Camp, noted that he found a strange wooden box while walking past Kaypi Canyon. The box was made of Tikka wood, and on the surface featured a series of tiny, illegible characters. Unfortunately, there was no way to determine what was written there. Curious to see if the box contained any valuable jewelry, he proceeded to try prying it open with brute force, but to no avail.

After the ordeal, the man decided to bring the box to the Expedition Leader. The leader carefully observed the box, and noticed that the box was bound by magic. This was how the box wound up in my hands, for I was quite close with the leader of the expedition. I had prided myself in having ample amounts of knowledge about magic, but this box was bound by a spell so foreign and powerful that I thought it would be impossible to break the seal.

In the end, with the help of a young wizard friend in Dunbarton, I was able to break the seal that had bound the box. When we opened the box, we were in collective shock as the items inside turned out to be belongings of the legendary head wizard Tapfni, who mysteriously disappeared during the 2nd war of Mag Tuireadh.

The items inside were  drafts of documents he had handwritten, along with various notes, scrolls, and enchants. The one that really caught my attention was a colossal document about the Ice Spear that totalled 2,481 pages. I suspected that this document may not have been written for publishing purposes, since it featured erratic punctuations and numerous misspellings, but it was more than enough to reveal the true secrets of the Ice Spear.

This book was written mainly with the intent to reveal a secret that had laid dormant all this time in this box which has been magically bound. This is the final gift, from Tapfni the Head Wizard, to the world, and hopefully this book will provide a new opening for future studies on Mana.

2. The Origin of Ice Spear

The origin of the Ice Spear, according to Tapfni's research records, is as follows.

Mana that is released into the air becomes exposed to a special power in the atmosphere and turns unstable. Here, when the flow of Mana is controlled using the help of the Ice Spear user's imaginary, the atmosphere becomes separated into hot and cold layers, circulating the air in that form.

During this process, the moisture in the air rapidly freezes, turning it into ice, but on the surface of the ice forms a thin layer of condensation, caused by the hot air surrounding it. Heat is quickly released because of this thin layer of condensation, causing the freezing to rapidly speed up.

The icy moisture turns into a pointed sharp tip, which is a direct result of the characteristics of Mana which tend to want to maintain the separation of the layers. This, in turn, creates an icy film on the edge of the sharp tip of the ice. While this process is repeated over and over again, the Ice Spear grows larger and larger into the size of a gigantic ice pillar.

Once created, one will notice that the Ice Spear has growth rings, similar to that of trees. Studying these layers of growth allows for one to calculate the amount of Mana that is expended upon each use of the Ice Spear.

3. The Properties of Ice Spear

The basic element of Ice Spear, ice, does not actually consist of water, namely the kind of water you see in waterfalls and reservoirs. Those would be considered a contaminated body of water that exists in this world. The liquidity of water is evident when observing the waterfall. As water falls down from a high place, one notices its fluidity, but ice is in its inflexible nature shatters upon contact.

One thing we should not forget here is that the tip of the ice that has been shattered is actually much sharper than a piece of glass.

4. The Actual Form of Ice Spear

Everyone knows that snowflakes come in countless forms, without a single one that looks like another. This is evidence of the instability as well as complexity of the freezing process. Considering this, it is no wonder that the Ice Wand is an absolute necessity when it comes to actually using the Ice Spear. In fact, the Ice Wand helps to focus the flow of Mana during the chaotic process of freezing

When you use the Ice Spear magic with the help of the Ice Wand, you will notice a soft vibration that tickles your diaphragm and feel something changing in the air (i.e. the color, taste, smell of it). Focus your mind and draw upon your imaginary and you will be on your way to using the Ice Spear.

The giant ice pillar that is floating in the air grows in size with each use. Remember, though, that the Ice Wand can only be used up to 5 times due to the instability that could be caused by the rapidly increasing power of Mana during the freezing process which, of course, is highly risky and dangerous..

Once the Ice Spear is done, it floats toward wherever there is a higher concentration of Mana. And as soon as it arrives, the Ice Spear shatters into pieces, causing extreme damage upon all enemies in the surrounding area.

5. In Conclusion

You should always remember that magic is simultaneously a divine body of knowledge as well as a meaningful product of this knowledge. Magic teaches us ways to understand our universe as well as how to use it to our advantage.

This advanced magic skill, the Ice Spear, should be seen from this perspective as well; know that the Ice Spear is not only a powerful magic attack skill useful for destroying the enemy, but is also the embodiment of a fundamental truth about Mana.

Once you have collected all 5 pages of Ice Spear skill book, you will have completed the skill book [The Book of Ice Spear: The Pinnacle of Ice Magic].

2. Using Ice Spear

After completing the book [The Book of Ice Spear: The Pinnacle of Ice Magic], you will have acquired the skill Ice Spear, but you will be under the practice rank as well.

1) How to use Ice Spear

More than anything, you’ll need to be equipped with an Ice Wand in order to use the skill.
Ice Wand can be purchased through Stewart, and you can also acquire the wand as a quest reward for the quest [Acquire Ice Spear skill book].

When you set up the skill, the bubble above your head will feature a huge ice spear, and the more you save up, the bigger the ice will get. Remember that the moment you have either summoned Ice Spear or are charging up for more ice, your character will be rendered immobile, so make sure to keep a safe distance away from monsters.

Charge up Ice Spear 5 times to fulfill the requirements for the practice rank of the skill.

2) The Characteristics of Ice Spear

The characteristic of the Ice Spear is to first freeze the target, then explode them.

Click on the target, and Ice Spear will penetrate through the target. The affected enemy will temporarily freeze, then explode, receiving massive damage. If the enemy is rendered unconscious, then the ice particles from the explosion will affect the enemies surrounding it, freezing them in the process. The distance in which the particles travel will increase as the skill rank increases as well.

The damages caused by the ice particles will decrease as the number of frozen enemies increase. Keep in mind that as the number of charges increase, however, the decrease in damage gets smaller as well.

The other characteristic of Ice Spear is its fast summoning speed.

For a high-level magic, the summoning speed of Ice Spear at Rank 9 is similar to that of Icebolt at Rank F. This will enable you to attack more enemies more frequently.

Once the skill reaches Rank 5, the area the skill covers will increase. Once you reach Rank 1 of the skill, the area the skill covers will increase even more, enabling you to attack multiple enemies with a single attack.

* Monsters that are inherently strong against ice do not freeze; rather, they’ll come up to you and inflict damage. Relax, though. After a short period of time, these monsters will explode and be knocked down.
