20. The Truth about Spirits

In the previous episode, Chief Duncan gave you the [Broken Torque] and the [Red Wing of the Goddess]. The only remaining keepsake that belonged to Mari’s mom… Shiela. Don’t you wonder what kind of memories are in this torque? Use the [Red Wing of the Goddess] to go to Math Dungeon.

[Broken Torque]

Given by Duncan, this torque has also been broken off in the middle. It looks like the torque was bent too often.  This is the other half of the torque you got from the Dunbarton Town Office last time. On the surface, the words [We Shall See Each Other Again] have been intricately engraved.  Duncan said to form a Party of 2 and place this on the altar in Math Dungeon.

The other half’s [Broken Torque] RP must be played by 2 people. If you place an item while you are alone, you will receive a message stating that you cannot enter the dungeon alone.

You should seek the help of Bledin to do this. Once you’ve formed your party of 2, place the [Broken Torque] on the altar of the Goddess.

1) Shiela’s Spirit

When you enter the dungeon, you will notice that the party leader has turned into a white ghost, while the party mate that went in with you has turned into Mores.

What… Don’t tell me this ghost is Shiela!

[Shiela]
Ah… You're alive, dear!
… You've lost a lot of weight...
I can only imagine all that you've been through...

But… Mores does not answer…

[Shiela]
Mores…? Mores? Don't you recognize me...? It's Shiela... Your wife...

But Mores does not know that Shiela is next to him. Shiela has come out to meet Mores, just as they’d promised, but he cannot see her.

After you watch the heartbreaking scene with Shiela, you will be able to move.

Remember that Shiela is much weaker than Mores. Mores must either protect her or Shiela will have to slowly follow him from behind.

Because Shiela is a ghost, you will see that she appears vaguely. Be careful as you move forward.

2) Mores and Shiela’s Memories

After a while, you’ll see Mores taking a break. But something… seems familiar…

[Mores]
I need to rest...  There is no end to this. I've been constantly circling the dungeon...

[Shiela]
We made a promise to each other... that we will meet again... That's why I came...

Mari is safe...
...I missed you...
...I wanted to hear your voice.

But...can you not see me...? Please... Look at me...

[Mores]
Don't stop now... I must... return. I promised Shiela upon this torque. I won't stop now!

I will go where Shiela is waiting. I will go back! And I will ask my friends this.

I want to know… why they betrayed me...

Why they felt compelled to stab me in the back!

Oh, I see… This is the same memory as that of when Mores went into Math Dungeon. We were seeing things from Mores’ perspective, but I suppose Shiela was there with him. What’s the difference between what Mores saw and what Shiela saw? Well, you’ll have to keep going to find out.

Soon, Mores comes face to face with Ghost Armors. You already know what happens after, right?

[Ghost Armor 1]
Mores, the Grand Wizard. We have finally found you. Please let go of your anger, and come with us.

[Ghost Armor 2]
You may be alive, but you aren't really alive. You are already considered diseased in your world. You can no longer return to the world of the humans.

[Mores]
To you who only disguise as humans, but really aren't... Who dares to try getting in the way of a furious Wizard!

[Ghost Armor 1]
Mores. I apologize if my previous comments have upset you. But... Your life is no longer in your hands.

The only reason you're still alive is because of the will of the Goddess Morrighan.

And... Jabchiel sacrificed his own life in order to sustain yours.

[Ghost Armor 2]
Oh, great Wizard, Mores. Even if you wish to return to the human realm, you will not be able to sustain your life.

Countless Fomors have sacrificed their lives for you. I hope you realize how valuable your life really is.

[Mores]
Do not get in the way of me leaving this place. I... shall go back.  To the human world...

...I will not forgive anyone...  who gets in my way...!

The battle between the Ghost Armors and Mores begins. Shiela stands back.

Just as we are about ready to finish up, a shadow appears from behind.

Already knowing what will happen next… Does that make you feel uneasy? Is this how a prophet feels, knowing what is to come?

[Dark Lord]
Stop, Mores! Enough already... There's no reason to fight a meaningless battle anymore…!

[Mores]
Step aside and don't make me repeat myself. ...I will not forgive anyone... who gets in my way! Even if it is the Goddess herself...!

[Dark Lord]
Oh, troubled Wizard... I understand why you long to return...

But...if you do return, you will surely die.

...Why do you not believe us...? If you don't trust us... ...it will only cause you more pain.

[Mores]
Why do you believe I will die if I return?

[Dark Lord]
Oh Wizard Mores... Would you like to find out for yourself?

Do you think you can handle... the truth that I am about to show you?

[Mores]
Lord of Darkness... Do not underestimate me...

[Dark Lord]
Very well then... Behold...

This is the image of Mores’ home on fire…

[Shiela]
...!!!

[Mores]
Tell me! What's going on? It's you, isn't it!
...Do you think you can threaten me by doing this!?

[Dark Lord]
Hold back your assumptions. It's not us. Take a closer look.

There continues images of humans appearing, and a bone-chilling woman’s shriek…

[Mores]
Tha... That... It can't be... Why are... Humans... Human soldiers... in my house…?

[Shiela]
...!!!

[Mores]
Ah... Shiela, my love! Shiela! No! My child! Where is my child?

[Shiela]
Ah...ahhh...

[Mores]
Ah... No... No! Stop!

The person who remains… lives in pain… And then there’s Shiela, who is no longer alive in this world… Her spirit has remained but… I don’t imagine seeing her own death again must feel so good.

[Mores]
Ahhhhhh! Why... why...?

[Dark Lord]
Yes... the Humans are responsible for this. The upper-class aristocrats, who received reports from your friends, did this. We tried to stop it... I am sorry.

Because you found out Jabchiel's ultimate spell, you and everyone related to you were murdered. You at least died and became a hero, but your family wasn't so lucky.

...This all happened while you were unconscious.

[Mores]
Ahh…ahh... Shiela...  My love.... And my baby... I'm sorry... I'm so sorry... All because of me...

[Shiela]
Mores...

[Dark Lord]
Mores... In the human world, you are considered a great hero. You sacrificed your life by throwing your body to repel Jabchiel's ultimate spell.

Did you ever stop to think what would happen If you, who died as a hero, were to reappear in your world alive? Did you think about what would happen?

The humans will try to kill you again for their selfish gain.

All of your friends have become heroes, and they have enough power to silence one high-leveled Wizard.

That's the reality... As you just witnessed... That is the ugly truth about the true nature of humans. Truth means nothing to them. Only their twisted sense of justice, which they acknowledge only amongst themselves...

I, myself, have also turned my back on this sick race called humans. If you seek revenge, submit yourself to Goddess Morrighan's eternal will.

I shall lead you to the Goddess.

[Mores]
...Let’s go.

Mores seems to have surrendered himself to the situation. Shiela quietly follows.

3) Morrighan’s True Identity

The scene changes… and Morrighan, the Goddess in question, appears.

[Morrighan]
Mores... You poor soul... You must be in so much pain...

[Mores]
Y…you are...!

[Shiela]
Mo... Morrighan...?

[Morrighan]
Yes... I am Morrighan. Protector of Humans, Guardian of Warriors... After I became petrified during the first war at the field of Mag Tuireadh, I have been staying here ever since.

[Shiela]
N…no, It can't be... Something's strange...

What… Something’s strange. There’s something doubling behind Morrighan…

The Morrighan that Shiela sees is different from the Morrighan seen by Mores. What could that shadow be, casting a double over Morrighan? White wings and… a black robe… who could that be? Isn’t that Morrighan?! Is this possible??

[Shiela]
That…that's…!
…Ci... Cichol...! How…how…did he survive...? That evil god of Fomors… how did he...?

Shiela says that the person shadowing over Morrighan is Cichol. An evil Fomor then? What is this that is standing here then???

[Mores]
Then, is this Tir… Na Nog?

[Shiela]
No...!
This is not Tir Na Nog!

As a spirit, Shiela could see the truth. Shiela tries to block Mores who is seeing an illusion.

[Morrighan]
Where you are is not important... What is important is your feelings toward humans... Betrayal, hatred... and sadness...

[Mores]
Even you have given up on humans due to their immoral nature...

[Morrighan]
Do you... forgive those who slaughtered your family...? If the opportunity of vengeance comes your way... Will you not seize it?

Morrighan... no, Cichol, speaks trying to convince Mores to come to the Fomors.

[Shiela]
Honey… please don't listen to her... You don't need to hate every human out there... Please…she's just trying to use you...

Unfortunately, Shiela’s words cannot be heard by Mores. And the rest is history.

[Mores]
...No. I will...get revenge no matter what. Those who have made me like this, and those who have killed my family... I will follow them to the depths of hell...I will not let them get away...

[Shiela]
Honey...

[Morrighan]
Although I am the Guardian of Warriors, I am also the author of War and Vengeance... I have also lost hope in humans...

They slay their own brethren for greed, and selfishness... In order to achieve the order of Aton Cimeni... to bring true peace to the world...

...humans must be destroyed.

[Shiela]
NO...!!! What are you talking about!!!

[Morrighan]
...You understand my will...don't you?

[Shiela]
You're not Morrighan!!!

Shiela begs Mores to not trust Morrighan’s imposter but… Mores eventually chooses…

[Shiela]
Mores, don't listen to her! Look at me! Please!

[Mores]
Oh, Goddess...!

...Answer me!  I will do anything for you!  What can I do to help you get your revenge!?

With Mores’ vengeful shout… Shiela’s memory ends.

In the next episode, you will learn more about the Fomor Cichol pretending to be Morrighan, and learn how to get to Tir Na Nog.

[Note 1]
Mores and Shiela’s RP must be played in a party of 2.  Form a party of 2, then place the [Broken Torque] on the Goddess’ altar.

[Note2]
The parts of the game which are from Shiela’s perspective have the white frosted sides. This is the way it is supposed to be so keep going.

[Note 3]
If you have lost the Broken Torque, talk to Eavan at the Dunbarton Town Office and you will be able to receive another one.
