Paladin Storyline Part 4
story
This post is based on “Paladin”, the main storyline behind Mabinogi’s Storyline Quests. If you do not wish to find out about what happens next, feel free to return to the previous page and view other strategy guides.

4. Lugh, the Knight of Light

You have been training to become a Knight of Light at the Paladin Training Center in Emain Macha until now.

However, witnessing how the training entailed more Gold than honor and passion, as well as the unrestricted murdering of any and all Fomors have made you reconsider the training; as a result, you have quit the training with a belief that what you were ordered to do was not the true path of the Knight of Light.

Although you won’t find out whether you’ve made the right choice or not until later, your decision to quit the training seems like an admirable choice at the moment. But how are you to follow the path of the Knight of Light now?

1) The Second Message from Goddess Morrighan

When you re-login after quitting the Paladin training, you will receive a second message from the Goddess.

... can you hear me...?
Are you looking for the path… The path of the Knight of Light...?

…There's no time… I can't stop the power of Cichol all by myself... But Morgant... I can tell his power is continually growing...

… do not be discouraged and continue to find the path... The path of the Knight of Light is still in Emain Macha... Lugh…Find Lugh, the Knight of Light…

Don't forget. You'll need much perseverance and sacrifice to walk the path of becoming the Knight of Light...
Your desire to follow after Lugh, the Knight of Light will lead you to become a Knight of Light…
Hang in there… I believe in you…

Goddess Morrighan will give you an advice as to how you can become a Knight of Light. The desire to follow after Lugh, the Knight of Light…? Let’s go and see what we can find out about Lugh.

2) Lugh, the Knight of Light

You will acquire a new keyword when you receive the message of the Goddess.

[Lugh, the Knight of Light]
The name Goddess Morrighan told me about.  I should ask around and find out who this person was.

Who is Lugh, the Knight of Light that Goddess Morrighan spoke of? Just as you have gotten in the habit of asking the townspeople for answers around Erinn, let’s go see if we can gather some information about Lugh by talking to the residents of Emain Macha.

The first resident you will see is, of course, Nele the bard.

[Nele]
Lugh, the Knight of Light... The Knight of Light, Lugh... He is truly a hero amongst heroes. Under his leadership and his bravery, Humans were saved... He mainly used the spear, and he was exceptional at handling the weapon. They called him Brionac, meaning that there was nothing he couldn't pierce...

He eventually took over the deceased king Nuadha, putting all his efforts into the reconstruction of Erinn, then he passed on his throne and vanished into thin air... Although his physical presence is no longer with us, his footprints remain till this day, affecting every knight in Erinn.

Hmm… a hero of the Mag Tuireadh war… That’s right, Mores. He, too was referred to as a hero, but his story ended on a tragic note. Oops, sorry, I’m going off on a tangent.

If Lugh is related to the Mag Tuireadh war, wouldn’t Priest James know something about him?

[James]
Lugh, the Knight of Light...That's that hero who did amazing things for the Humans during the second Mag Tuireadh war. If the great Magician Mores is a hammer who interfered with Jabchiel's evil plans, Lugh, the Knight of Light, was like an anvil who held off the Fomor attacks and protected the frontlines. If it weren't for these two heroes, the Human race would be extinct. The current Paladin training system is said to have been created to raise more knights like him.

By talking to the residents of Emain Macha, we were able to find that Lugh, the Knight of Light, was a hero in the second Mag Tuireadh war, whose admirable achievements then became the basis of the current Paladin training system.

The only person left now is Gordon, the chef of a famous restaurant, Loch Lios. Shall we see what else we can find out about Lugh?

[Gordon]
Knight of Light, Lugh...? The hero that led the Mag Tuireadh war to victory ? Yea, the second Mag Tuireadh war. Hmm...Wait a minute... Didn't you ask me about Paladins the last time...? Oh yea... That's right... The Paladin knights of Emain Macha is an organization that was originally formed to commemorate Lugh's tremendous bravery and achievements. It was to produce more outstanding knights like Lugh...

...There was one who stood out from that group.  His name was...Red...That's right, it was Redire. It's such a well known name, but it was hard for some reason trying to recall it on the spot.

Oh, a new piece of information! So there was a knight named ‘Redire’ amongst the Paladin Knights.
Wouldn’t you be a step closer to becoming a Knight of Light if we found this person?

3) Redire

[Redire]
He's considered the greatest knight out of all Paladin Knights. How would the residents at Emain Macha think of him?

A new figure. If Redire was the greatest knight of all Paladin Knights, wouldn’t that make him the closest person to being the Knight of Light? But where is he now? We should find him and ask him about how to become a Knight of Light.

[Nele]
He's a Paladin who heroically died during battle while he was protecting the people during the tragedy that happened in Emain Macha long ago. I heard he was very strong, very brave, and very respected amongst the people. I only heard all of this after I came to this town...

Come to think of it, a man named Price who stops by here once in awhile said he was close friends with Redire. Maybe you should try asking him...

Price is a traveling merchant and comes by Emain Macha once every few days. He's kind of strange... But he doesn't seem like a bad person, Haha...

Nele has suggested that you find Price. If he’s a traveling merchant, he must nomadically roam around all over Erinn… all the time. Finding Price may be quite an adventure…

We were able to find Price near the Moon Gate after days of searching around Erinn.

Finally found him! I heard that you were good friends with Redire…

[Price]
So...You were the one looking for Redire like myself? I heard about you and I was curious to see who it was... So, I think I heard about your story once before... Are you interested in why I'm looking for Redire? I am…actually Redire's old friend. Even if he heard the name “Price”, I know he would be ecstatic~ But… I have a guest who says that they are indebted to Redire and really wants to meet him…  So I thought I'd kill two birds with one stone, meet an old friend and do a favor for a customer as well. Wow… Then I hear his name Redire, Redire, everywhere, it's amazing! As a friend, of course I'm happy for him~ But anyways… So that's my story, but why are you looking for him so badly?

I’ve heard some stories about Lugh, the Knight of Light, and how he’s known as the greatest knight of all Paladin Knights. Then doesn’t that make Redire the Knight of Light? I’m trying to find the path of the Knight of Light.

[Price]
You're looking for the path of the Knight of Light...? You heard that Redire is a Knight of Light, equally as great as Lugh, huh...? That's kind of hard for even me to believe. You've come to the wrong place. The Redire I know is a great guy. I know he gets respected as a Paladin... But he is no Knight of Light. I'm sure of that.

But all the others I’ve spoken to have suggested I talk to Redire…

[Price]
...If you want to find the true path of the Knight of Light... You need to look for Lugh!!! Redire being comparable to Lugh? That's a bunch of nonsense.  If you've never met Lugh, you wouldn't say things like that so easily. The story of Redire is famous around here, but if you ask people from other places about the Knight of Light, every one of them will have heard of Lugh without a doubt!

But Lugh is nowhere to be found, I heard. How can I possibly meet him? I don’t believe you.

[Price]
You don't believe me? Hah~, my friend… I saw Redire's skills with my own eyes and I even saw a vision of Lugh inside Fiodh dungeon with my own two eyes. Yes!! If you go to Fiodh dungeon, you can see Lugh's manifestations. Wow, what's wrong with you... If you want to see Lugh's manifestation, take this item I give you and go to Fiodh dungeon. I can't wait to see your face after you come back to see me.

[Price]
If you use that to get inside Fiodh dungeon... you'll see something interesting. I'll give you a Wing of the Goddess as a bonus.

As soon as you finish your conversation with Price and receive a piece of cloth with which you can find Lugh, you will be shown a short clip.

4) Ruairi’s Decision

You will see Ruairi and Morgant, who were mistaken as Doppelgangers, as well as Triona who still remains unconscious.

[Morgant]
Do you remember... Ruairi? How you wanted to become a Paladin in the past...?

[Ruairi]
...

[Morgant]
Even back then, you said there was something about the group Paladin Knights that you could not be convinced of…

[Ruairi]
…You even knew about that...?

[Morgant]
…I can't say I know everything... But I know most of your past.

What, you're quitting already?

What I want is not a bunch of talk about justice and power!

Hmph. Ruairi, you're stupid. You were so determined before, but now you want to quit just because you don't like it…

Forget it. It'll be a waste of time for me to even try to explain.

[Morgant]
…In the end, the terms humans constantly refer to, righteousness and justice, are created solely by human standards. What humans consider truth or goodness are simply standards that were set by those who first explained them.

…That's not only selfish, but irresponsible, don't you think?

[Ruairi]
…What are you trying to say...?

[Morgant]
You should already know this. It is dangerous for a human being to have more power than one can handle.

…It not only brings tragedy upon that person, but to the people around the person as well.

Even so, things like that happen often, and are considered to be the norm.

[Ruairi]
…You are even aware of the internal struggle I went through...?

[Morgant]
.....It means that Triona is not the only victim of such a thing.

[Ruairi]
…Bu, but, I thought the Fomors want to exterminate humans? Aren't you…the same!?

[Morgant]
…That's a myth humans believe in without hesitation.

What I'm interested in is connecting Erinn and the world outside of Erinn... That way, I can show the humans how idiotic it is for them to believe that the universe revolves around them.

[Ruairi]
…Even if you say in that way, there is no difference between your definition of justice and justice for humans! Justice for humans and justice for Fomors are one and the same!!!

Then who will be responsible for the aftermath after the inevitable collision between the two? Don't try to persuade me with you Fomor's ideology. Did you forget that I'm human?

[Morgant]
We do not fulfill our greed by manipulating the standards of justice. The duty of a Dark Knight is that we train ourselves by using the wisdom that the creator gave us, and stop humans' arrogance and tyranny. That is the duty of Dark Knights. Ruairi. Can't you see what I'm trying to tell you?

It is a sin to confuse your stupidity as a voice of reason.

[Ruairi]
 ...

[Morgant]
And one more thing. I'm not a Fomor…I'm human. Just like you.

[Ruairi]
A human? …Like me?

[Morgant]
I'm a human who desires to destroy every irrational ideas...

…and wants everything to reset and start from scratch, fair and square.

5) Fiodh Dungeon

View your Inventory to confirm that the [Old Cloth with Design] as well as the [Red Wing of the Goddess] are in your possession.

[Old Cloth with Design]
A cloth with a tree design from Price.  Go place it on the Fiodh Dungeon altar all alone.

The Red Wing of the Goddess will allow you to transport to the lobby of Fiodh Dungeon.

One important reminder: before you place the [Old Cloth with Design] on the altar of the goddess, note that this is not a RP dungeon. You must meet the ghost of Lugh on your own as you proceed in the dungeon.

Fiodh Dungeon is a field dungeon, which means the time of day will affect your ability to spot the monsters. At night, it will become more difficult to detect the location of the monsters. Also, please note that there are various monsters in this dungeon including jackals, snakes, and werewolves… so be careful.

As you enter the rooms one by one, wondering how far you’ve come… you will see a figure standing in front of you.

This white figure… Is this the Ghost of Lugh…? It’s hard to tell whether the ghost is Lugh, but he is surrounded by light, perhaps hinting that he is the Knight of Light.

Before you can say anything, the Ghost of Lugh disappears to the opposite side after a few moments.

After the Ghost of Lugh disappears, you will be transported to the lobby of Fiodh Dungeon.
He’s only a ghost… but it was still amazing to meet the Knight of Light despite the brevity of our encounter.

Price was right. We were able to meet Lugh in the Fiodh Dungeon.

In the following episode, you will travel around Erinn in search of Price to talk to him about the Ghost of Lugh.

[Note 1]
You must re-login in order to receive the second message from Goddess Morrighan.

[Note 2]
Since Price is a traveling merchant, you won’t always find him at the same location. In order to find Price, you must seek help from people around Erinn.

[Note 3]
Fiodh Dungeon, where you will find the Ghost of Lugh, is not an RP dungeon, which means you’re on your own. Make sure you’re well-prepared. If you fail to meet the Ghost of Lugh, find Price to receive another [Old Cloth with Design] and try again.
